WORTH CANTERBURY CALEDONIAN GATHERING.

The weather was cloudy and rather cold for the annual sports of the North Canterbury Caledonian Society at Amberley yesterday. Nevertheless there was a very large attendance, and the proceedings were in every respect a gratifying success. The special excursion train was well patronised, and shortly after its arrival Pipers J. M'Kechnie, J. Wade, W. Davidson and H. M'Kay headed a procession of officers of the society and kilted visitors, and to the tune of " Cock o' the North," marched to the domain,' where the sports were commenced without delay. The ground was in excellent order, the new clay track lor cycling events being an appreciated addition to the appointments. Aa usual, the officers of the Society, headed by their president, Mr T. Ross, were most energetic and successful in carrying out their duties. The programme was an attractive one. The pipe music and dancing went on without intermission throughout the afternoon, and the track events were got off at the same time. The young folk were not overlooked, £2 being distributed amongst them as prizes for racing. Hr P. Hoare, of the Railway Hotel, had a publican's booth on the ground, and Mr W.
