There hag been a serious outbreak' in Bombay in connection with the" suppression of the plague. A party of officials were attacked by natives' while ascertaining the cause of the illness of a Mohammedan woman, and were dispersed. The police interfered, but were stoned, and then fired upon the mob, killing four of the rioters and wounding several others. The excitement Bpread like wildfire, Hindoos joining the Mohammedans' in resisting the authorities. Twoprivates of the Shropshire regiment were killed while>alkingin the street, and European* officers and the policfr were severely handled, several being. . seriously wounded. Europeans were beaten and stabbed in the bazaars, ambulances were burnt, and attempts were made to set fire to the hospitals. The European nurses narrowly escaped with their lives, and tbe surgeon of the Jamsetjee hospital was badly , wounded. '. " The rioters were repelled afte* several had been killed. The outbreak is the raoßt alarming .ihatrhas _ cctir red for many years . Bombay is now in the hands of the military, and the excitement is calming down.
