LAWN TENNIS.
The two new courts laid down at the expense of the Board of Governor's for the Canterbury College Tennis Club,, are now finished, and are probably the finest courts ever laid in • Christchurch. They will be formally opened in a few days. At the ladies' day held on Saturday last i in connection with the Linwood Lawn Tennis Club a scratch match was- played i between the members of the club* Teams were chosen by Messrs Barlow and Ferguson, and after some very good and exciting games Mr Ferguson's team won by a majority of two games, the results- being — ■ Barlow ninety-six and Ferguson ninetyeight games. On Saturday next the club will play a match against the Sydenham ' Club, at Linwood, commencing at one o'clock sharp. The following are the ; teams which will play :— Sydenham— Misses : Baldwin (2), Blackwell, Munday (2) and Gee, Messrs Seay, Lytteiton, Hall,. Kowe, Joll, Lockwood, King, Booth, Skelton, Gee i (2) and Eudd; Linwood — Messrs Kiver, M'Leod, Cant, Jackson, Moor, Aschman, Mayne, Ballautyne, Owen, Wither, Tayler and Strange, Misses Simpson, Kiver, Howard, Clarkson, Mrs Bristed and Mrs Barlow. The Christchurch Tennis Club has just completed the first round of a Handicap Singles Tournament for trophies offered by Mr Pannell, in both ladies' and gentlemen's classes. The following have won their heata: — Ladies: , Misses Durose, H. Hepburn, C. E. Kirk, ; M. R. Kirk, Grant, Morrison, Spring, Sopp, E. Chisnall, Brown, Wray, L. Brown, Wil- ( liams, Trounce, Jackson, F. Harrop, M. ( Harrop, B. Garforth, Garforth, and Pyne. Gentlemen's : Messrs Aitken, S. K. Bassett, Bowie, T. E. Chisnall, Craig, Candy, '■ Fraer, Haskins, Hughes, Kirk, Morley, and ', Wood. ,
