PICNICS.
♦ : — On Saturday, the St Ambrose Sundayschool, Waddington, held its annual picnic at Waireka. The children were conveyed thither in conveyances provided by Mr P. Cox, while their parents and friends drove themselves. Though the morning was dull, the day turned out all that could be desired, and all present thoroughly enjoyed themselves. After giving cheers for Mr and Mrs Cresswell (the host and hostess), and the Sunday-school teachers, a very pleasant day was ended by an enjoyable drive home in the cool of the ingIt was decided by the Kimberley School Committee at a special meeting held on Monday night to take the children attending the public school to Lyttelton on March 16, the necessary funds to be got by subscriptioDs irom the members of the committee and friends. The employes of the Canterbury Frozen Bleat Company; with their friends, held their annual picnic at Little River, yesterday. The party filled thirty-one railway carriages, and a special train left Belfast in the morning, and proceeded to Little Eiver, where a very pleasant day was spent, the party returning to town about eight o'clock.
