The following is a statement of expenditure of tho United North Canterbury and Ashburton Charitable Aid Board for the month of February, 1898: — Institution relief — Ashburton Home, 66 inmates, cost <£97 19s ; Female Refuge, 17 women and 11 infants, cost .£25 lGs 8d ; Memorial Home, 43 inmates, cost .£6B 10s 6d; Orphanage, 31 children (maintenance .£lB 2s 3d, boarded out ,£29), cost £il 2s 3d ; Samaritan Home, 58 inmates, cost .£25; Armagh Street Depot, 13 inmates, cost .£lO Is 9d; total cost, .£274 10s 2d. Outdoor relief. — Number of cases relieved, 457, comprising 1382 personsMoney allowances, .£250 6s 9d; rations, ,£261 14s 6d; clothing, boots and blankets, 6s 3d; fuel, .£l9 19s 6d; drugs and medical attendance, .£23 13s Id; total, .£556 Os Id. Maintenance of 43 destitute children (other than Orphanage) boarded out, .£4O 16s ; maintenance of 5 infirm and invalid persons boarded out, £0 18s ; maintenance of 40 children at industrial schools, .£56 7s Id. Office expenses, .£57 15s Id. Total number of persons relieved, 1709; total expenditure, .£993 18s 4d.
