DISPROPORTIONATE FEES.

Sir G. Fißher, M.H.R., has received the following .communication from the Premier-. — "Siv,— I have the' honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of March 3, drawing attention to the disparity of the amounts paid as fees to members of the legal profession retained as counsel for the Crown and for the defence in capital cases. In reply I agree with you that the fees paid by the Crown are often too low. It is, however, open to the counsel engaged to represent any exceptional circumstances that may attach to any particular case, and the Government would, of course, give due consideration to such representations."
