FOOTBALL.

The sixteenth annual meeting of the [Merivale Football Club v/as hefd in the Clarendon Hotel last evening, when between eighty and ninety were present, and Mr A. E. White presided. The Committee in their report stated that the. results achieved last season were the greatest since the formation of the club, a total of fifty matches being played, out of which forty-one were won, five lost and four drawn, 591 points being scored for and eighty-six against. Of the three competitions offered by the Union, the club were successful in winning two, and they tied for first place in the other one," being beaten in the play off. Messrs Menzies. Johnstone, Fitzgerald, Duggan, Chambers and Brooker represented the club in the interprovincial contests, and the lastnamed was a member of the New Zealand team which toured New South Wales and Queensland. There were now 215 members on the club's books, an increase of 15 on iast year. Regret was expressed at the death of an old member, Mr'E. P. Barnes. The balance-sheet showed receipts .£75 16s lid, and expenditure .£73 3s 6d, leaving a credit balance of £2 13s sd. The medals given by Miss Marriner, Mr Roltonandthe club, were won respectively by Messrs C. M'Cree, J. Beck and A. Cornish. Mr H. J. Marriner had offered two trophies for the best all round players in the Junior Flag team and President's Cup. The report and balance-sheet were unanimously adopted. Thirty-two new members were elected. The election of officers resulted as follows : —President, Mr A. E. G-. Rhodes (reelected) ; vice-presidents, Dr Jennings and Palmer and Messrs I. Gibbs, J. Macnamara, J. Thornton and J. T. M. Hayhurst ; club captain, Mr A. E. White (re-elected) ; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr R. W. Barry ; committeemen, Messrs Brooker, P. Menzies, Rolton and V. Eraser ; selection committee, Messrs R.. W. Barry and T. Moor, wich the field captain and the captains of teams; delegates to the C.R.U., Messrs F. Evans, Brooker, D. Fraser and C. Menzies. The opening day was fixed for March 19. The annual meeting of the Hororata Football Club was held on Saturday night, when there was a good attendance, and Mr R. N. Bealey (president) occupied the chair. The balance-sheet was read and adopted, and the following officebearers were elected: — Patron, Sir John Hall; president, Mr R. N. Bealey; vicepresidents, Messrs R. Hay ward, E. Bealey, W. Hall, A. Bond, C. Jennings, A. W. H. Barrett and J. Cresswell; captain, Mr G. Ironsides; sub-captain, Mr H. C. Percy ; secretary, Mr H. Thorne. ; selection committee, Messrs G. Ironsides, A. J. Thorne and J. Wilson ; general committee, Messrs J. A. Nelson, C. Lovett, G. Ironsides, H. C. Percy, H. Thorne and W. Maffey. It was decided to open the season with an. Association game, with teams selected by Mr Cochran.
