Calvert, as honorary colonel formerly of a West Australian volunteer j regiment. During a recent trial for libel at Old Bailey, it transpired that Calvert wished to obtain the honorary colonelcy of a volunteer regiment, for political purposes, and that it was ob« tamed. The parties to the transaction, the prosecutor and the defendant in a libeVcase, afterwards quarrelled about the division of the money paid by the West Australian millionaire to secure the honour.
