ST. ALBANS.

, Ac a special meeting of the St Albans Borough Council last night it was resolved i — '" That a special order made at a special [ meeting 1 of the Council held ,on Jan. 24, 1898, be confirmed, and that the separate rate be struck and levied, to be payable in one sum on March 10, 1898, and that Councillors- Davey and Charlewood sign the rate- list." An ordinary meeting of the Council was then held. Present: — The- Mayor (Mr F. Waymouth), and Councillors Money, Penteney, Morgan, Glass, Charlewood, Neate, Hill, Davey and Keig. The Finance Committee reported receipts ,£229, and expenditure .£206 5s Id. The report was adopted. The Works Committee recommended that the tender of Mr Queree, for the supply of 300 yards of inet&l and 200 yards of screening, should be accepted. The report was adopted. The Sanitary Committee reported that in their opinion- a certain poultry yard, was causing a nuisance. It was resclved that the Council as a Board of Health should refer the matter to the Sanitary Committee with p6wer to take immediate action. Correspondence was received from Constable Stunner with reference to the straying; of cattle. From the Chairman of the Samaritan. Home Committee as to the incorporation- of the Samaritan Home as a separate body, and from the Chairman of the Charitable Aid Board on the same matterIt was unanimously resolved to support the Charitable Aid Board in opposing the incorporation of the Home as a separate institution. It was resolved that the Drainr age Boardisliould.be respectfully requested to furnish the Council with an estimate of tthe cost of piping or constructing a bricksewer, aa the Engineer deems it advisable, in Edgeware Road,, of the whole length of their drain, and of the cost of filling in the present drain; also, as to what amount the Board would be prepared to pay towards the cost of the same. The question of- placing a lamp at the corner of Edgewar© Road and Madras Street, and another on Aikinan's Road, was referred to the Finance Committee to consider when framing their estimates. • ' i . ■
