PRESENTATIONS.

On Friday night the railway staff at Lyttelton met m the social hall to bid good-bye to Mr H. E. Johnson, who has been promoted to the position of tiaffic inspector at Auckland. A most enjoyable evening was spent, and before the party separated Mr Johnson whs presented with a handsome travelling bag and rug from the staff, and many expressions of the good feeling that had existed .amongst tnem during Mr Johnson's stay at the port wore tittered. .Mr Johnson will be succeeded at Lyttelton by Mr .T. Owen, from Timarn. On Friday night at Cambridge Terrace Primitive Methodist Church.Mr B. James was presented by the choir, of which he has been secretary, with a handsome writing desk aS a token of esteem on the occasion of his leaving for Invercargill. A gathering of cricketers took place at the Occidental "Hotel on Saturday night for the purpose of presenting Mr A. E. Eidley with a memento in recognition of his fine batting performance in the second innings of the recent match Canterbury v. Otago. In the unavoidable absence of Mr WynnWilliams, Mr H. W. D. Meares occupied the chair. In making the presentation the Chairman spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Eidley's innings, and presented him on behalf of the cricketing public with a silver cigarette case and a tobacco and cigar cabinet, inscribed " Canterbury v. Otago, 189 S. A. E. Eidley, 76 not out. From his cricketing friends." Mr Eidley was also presented with a bat givsn by Mr W. B. Clarkson. In responding Mr Eidley thanked those, present for their handsome gifts, and referred in the course of his remarks to the good service rendered in the match by Messrs "Wilding and Pearce. After a number of toasts had been proposed and duly honoured, the meeting was brought to a close with the customary vote of thanks to the Chairman.
