CHRISTCHURCH LIEDERTAFEL.

i There was a large attendance at Hobbs's Assembly Rooms last night, when the Christchurch Liedertafel gave its sixty- . ninth concert in the shape of . a Herren • i Abend. The part-songs, all of which have ! ; been given bv the Liedertafel on previous ! occasions, were excellently sung, but special mention may be made of Asthotz's " Hunter's Joy " and Russiger's " Frontier I Line." Sir Henry Bishop's humorous trio, . "Mynheer Van Dnnclc," sung by Messrs Izard, Appleby and Millar, was also a very i acceptable item, and deserved the applause , with which i t was greeted. The soloists were : , Mr C. T. Bell, who received an encore for , his singiug of Bovan's " King of the Road;" >■ Mr J. Key, who scored a decided success in > his singing of, Sullivan's ''A Sailor's , Grave," which was encored; Mr T. Y. Wardrop, who gave a good rendering of , Alfred Hill** "My Fairest Child," and Mr i | Peter Hockley, whose fine voice was heard i■ to greatadvautage.in Capel's ." Love, Could i1 1 Only Tell Thee," which was re-demanded. j Mr A. Millar was in good voice, and sang i , Devan's "Rose of the Desert," with his usual amount of energy. Mr Wallace played a nocturne of De Kontski's in his usual masterly manner, and as an encore i gave a beautiful "Berceuse" of Reyj nard, on muted strings. Mr H. A. Adley ! played the accompaniments with great care, j and Mr P. M. Wallace conducted.
