* {"Per Pbess Association.! DUNEDIN, March 4. At the criminal sittings to-day, in the charge against S. J. Mercer, of •wounding with intent, the jury returned a verdict of "Not guilty," and Mercer was acquitted. Mr Justice Denniston said that he had received a letter signed "Christian," asking him to deal severely with Mercer. He handed the letter to the Crown Prosecutor, in the hope of finding the writer, who, if brought before him, would be dealt severely with.
