SMART WORK.
Just as the Vancouver liner Warrimoo was entering the narrows of the Suva Passage on the morning of Jan. 13, a stowaway from Wellington jumped overboard, his object being to swim ashore and bo escape imprisonment. The ship waß immediately stopped and turned round, and a boat lowered in charge of Mr Mortimer, chief officer. The man was on board the boat in the incredible time (seeing, the ship had been going "full speed") of two minutes, and on the steamer's deck in two minutes more. The wonder is that he was not eateu by sharks, which are very numerous in the vicinity. Ah American passenger on board who was very cool, with watch in hand, was heard to say, " Guess this is the smartest work I have seen in all my varied travels. Well done, Warrimoo— two minutes and nine seconds." The man jumped over in a very ticklish . place, as Captain Hay had very little room to turn the ship round in.
