The police, with a search warrant, entered Dr Orpen's offices and took possession of a quantity of surgical instru-. ments and medicines; In consequence of it being likely that Commissioner Tunbridge's presence will be required in Wellington at this stage in connection with the steps taken' to secure the arrest of Orpen; the Minister of Justice has countermanded the instruction for the Commissioner .to come to Auckland until Jan. 14. The results of tHe annual distridt scholarship exSririinatiohs of the Auckland Educavtion Board have been announced.*- -The resulta are considered very -satisfactory.There were 38 competitors in the senior ahd 196 in the junior division. Auckland College and Grammar School figures well in the senior scholarship list, as six out of seven pupils of that institution, including the one ' at the head of the list," gained scholarships. A peculiar feature of the results of the junior scholarship contest is that out of fourteen offered no fewer than ten were won by boys, and the first girl was seventh on the list. Out of the fourteen scholarships five were secured by pupils attending country schools and three by suburban scholars. A meeting of the committee appointed to carry out arrangements for holding an industrial and mining exhibition in Auckland was held to-day. The Chairman explained that the uso of the Choral Hall had been secured for an art gallery. Mr de Montalk submitted a rough sketch plan of the. proposed exhibition building for submission to the Building Committee, He explained that about 40,600 ft of space •would ' be available. His rough sketch : provided . for buildings- . 280ft; across and 340 ft in length . The Chairman said that .the Building Committee would require to provide a bicycle track. The Building . .
