Tuesday, Dec. 14. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., Mr A. Todd, J.P., and Mr E. R. Good, J.P.) ; Slaughterhouse License.— A renewal of a slaughterhouse license was granted to Alfred Home, Maori Reserve. Destitute Persons Act. — John Kennedy charged his son, Charles Kennedy, with disobeying an order of the Court to contribute towards his support, £3 10s being in arrears. Accused did not appear, and was sentenced to one month's hard labour. ■—Thomas Henry Hurrell, for failing to comply with.an order of the Court to contribute towards the. support of his wife and family, JB4 being due, was sentenced to one month's hard labour. . ] Abusive Language.— Margaret Bruns charged . Winifred O'Mara with having used abusive language towards her in a public place on Dec. 9. Mr. Johnston for complainant, Mr Helmore for defendant. , There was a cross summons, Winifred b'Mara charging, Margaret Bruns with using abusive language. In the first case the information was dismissed without defence evidence being called, complainant stating that defendant was on her own property and therefore not in a public place. In the other case it was proved to the satisfaction of the Bench that defendant made use of the language complained of, but the Stipendiary Magistrate thought there must have been provocation, although denied by complainant. A fine of ss, with costs, was inflicted, and defendant was cautioned that if she offended again she would be bound over to keep the peace. Civil Cases. — G. Felton v. Thomas Edlin, claim Bs., judgment by default for amount rents. — T. Wilson v. Mrs Simeon (a Maori) claim £± 7s 7d, judgment summons. Defendant stated that she was expecting some money from the Public Trustee, in connection with property on the West Coast, but delay had occurred in the payment. The Stipendiary Magistrate said he was aware of the circumstances of her statements, and allovred the case to stand over until Feb. • 1, telling defendant she would have to pay the account, and advising her to write to the Public Trust Office every day, if necessary, to obtain satisfaction in respect to her property.
