MEETING OF EXECUTIVE.
A meeting of the Executive Committee of the floral fete was held at the City Council Chambers last night; present — The Mayor (in the chair), Meadames T. Cordon,' A. H. Hancock, C.Louisson and A. Marshall, Messrs C. Louisson, E. Smith, L. Cockayne, H. B. Kirk; G. Capper, A. H. fiancock, O. W. Exall. W. L. Kernahan, C. Hull, H. D. Pine, T. West, W. Woods, W. 38. Thompson, A. Marshall, M. Murphy, J. V, Kelly, T. Russell, J. E. Baker and R. 3kl'Milla!n (secretary). The Mayor reported the result of the : meeting of ladies in the afternoon. A •letter had been received from Mrs Julius, •wishing the fete success, but expressing regret that she was unable to take aa active part in connection with. it. The'Qate Committee recommended that "the four money boxes at the entrance ol the Grounds should fee removed nearer the kerb, that some responsible person should be engaged to •act as supervisor of the gates, and that fifteen men should be engaged for the gates, boxes, &c. The report of the Gate Committee was adopted, and the committee was authorised to engage all men required and to make all necessary arrangements. i Mr M. Murphy was elected a member of the Gate Committee. Mr Louisson reported that Mr Gaw, the { traffic manager, had informed him that the I railway authorities would collect the j ■charge for admission from passengers carried to the ground by rail, but would not run special excursion trains, unless it appeared that the gathering was going to be a very large, one, in which case such , trains might^e run. '"' Mr E. Smith reported that the Canvassing Committee had collected about .£IOO in cash, and trophies to the value of £50, including three boats given by Mr Anstey and Mr M'Lean. • Mr Capper reported that, for the purposes of judging, the exhibits were to be divided into twelve classes, to each of which two ladies and one gentlemen were to be allotted as judges, with one member of the executive to act as steward in each class. A list of judges and stewards was submitted, and adopted with slight alteration, and the Programme Committee was empowered to -substitute the name 3 of other ladies or .gentlemen, for those of any who were unable to act. Mr W. E. Thompson stated that arrangements had been made for judges for the cycling events, for which a very satisfactory number of entries would be forthcoming. On the motion of Mr Louisson, seconded by Mr Kirk, the clause providing that no first prize should be awarded unless there were three competitors, and no second prize unless four competitors, was struck out, and it was decided that prizes should be given in every class irrespective of the number of entries. Mr Murphy reported that he had addressed the senior children of the Gloucester Street and Normal schools on the subject of the fete; and he had reason to believe that sevoral children would enter as competitors. He intended to address the children of the Sydenham, West Christchurch and other schools. Mr Smith said that as a result of Mr Murphy's addresses, he had received a large number of applications for catalogues from children. The acceptance of the tenders for privileges was confirmed. Messrs R. C. Bishop and E. Smith were appointed to act as marshals at the fete. It was decided to admit members of competing bands free. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Mayor, asking for the city water carts to be used for watering the ground and the road thereto. The committee adjourned to S p.m. on Tuesday next. __
