ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

INQUEST. The body of the woman found on the rend flats in the estuary on Wednesday has been identified as that of Miss Jane Lawry, sister of Mr John La wry, farm manager, Springston. An inquest was held at the Wharf Hotel at four o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mr R. Beethain, coroner, presided, and Mr J. pi-ace was foreman of the jury. Constable Hayes conducted the inquiry. The evidence showed that the deceased had been staying at Burnhani with her niece, Mrs Wright, and had left there on Tuesday morning to come to Christchurch to see a medical man. She was in poor health, but there was nothing 1 in her behaviour to lead her friends ito thiuk. .that she would do away with herself. On Tuesday afternoon she was seen walkingidown the Ferry Road near the bridge, and it was noticed that she had a str^i^e teak. On the following morning her lfrody .w.as. found about five hundred yards below .fch.e Ferry Bridge, and some distance- ; below Jnghwwater mark, there being marks in the jn,ud showing that the body had bee.n .carried along by "the tide. Among her effects ,was- a return ticket to Burnhaui. Dr Hunt, : who had made a post-mortem examination, said that death was due to drowning. The jury returned a verdict to the . effte.pt that the* deceased had been found droT^nqd, but that there was no evidence to .sh.p.w how she came into the W£it«r.
