WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.

A special meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in the coffee rooms, Manchester Street, on Wednesday, to consider the question of registration. The following resolutions were unanimously passed: — " (1) That the Women's Christian Temperance Union of Christchurch become incorporated under the Unclassified Societies Act, 1895, under thestyleandtitleof 'The Women's Clm6tian Temperance Union of Christchurch. (2) That all necessary steps be taken by the President to give effect to the foregoing resolution." Mrs Ballantyne reported having agreed with the landlords foi a renewed lease of the building in Manchester Street, and for certain specified improvements. The Union unanimously endorsed her action. A letter was read from the Canterbury Women's Institute, asking that delegates should be sent to a meeting on August 27, to consider the question of the appointment of female justices and prison reform. A letter was read from the Australasian Society of Ethics, asking that delegates should be sent to a meeting to confer on the question of an international language. The Union resolved that, while having sympathy with the subject, it could not see its' way to co-operate at present. The following resolution was unanimously passed: — "That in the opinion of this meeting the Christchurch Hospital authoritiDs should be compelled to make provision for tho reception of patients suft'oriutr f loin contagious disease."
