LAND BOARD.
The Canterbury Land Board met yesterday; present— Messrs S. Weetman (Commissioner of Crown Lands), D. M'Millan, A. C. Pringle, J. M'Lachlan and E. Meredith, M.H.R. The following lands were allotted :— Run 221, Wilberforce station, 79,000 acres, to David Stott, and Section 4. Block XI., Cheviot Survey District, 22. acres, to J. IL Pierson. The, Board did not ; see .its vway to teoom- ." mend the Land Purchase -Board to enter j into negotiations for the purchase of the land offered for purchase near Hunters' 1 Hills by Messrs Rhodes and Hendry. Tenders for the occupation of unselected lands in South Canterbury from Sept. 1, 1897, to March 1, 1898, were accepted as under :— E.S. 36458 and 36459, Burkes Pass, John Ross at .£46 for the term ; R.S. 36466, Mackenzie Pass, J. D. Rutherford, JJ2S; E.S. 3622 C, Hunter's Hills, Edward Elworthy, =623 11s 9d; R.S. 36389 and 36390, Station Peak, New Zealand and Australian Land Company, .£l6O. An application was received from Messrs Lougbrey and Lane, on behalf cf the adjoining owners, to purchase the Tramway Eeserve through E.S.s 13956, 10057 and 7355, near Lake JEllesmere, and it was decided to recommend the Head Office to take steps to have the land discharged from reservation with a view to sale. Mrs M. Squire applied to have some freehold land adjacent to 8.5., 36227, Hunter's Hills, j purchased for addition to her holding, but | the Board did not see its way to recomI mend the Land Purchase Board to ■ acquire the laiid. On. an application from ! the South Canterbury Board of Education, ;it was decided to rfic'tanmend the head I office to reserve lots 8, $,• 14 and 15, Block . 11,, Orari township, as ari extension of the j Orari school site. Proposals „hy the j Arowhenua Town Board and" W&itnate County Council for the expenditure of thirds were approved. .Reports from the Crown Lands rangers were read with respect to defaulters as to residence and improvements on the Highbank settlement. It was resolved to forfeit fourteen leases for noncompliance with conditions. j After dealing with ■ a quantity of other ■ . business the Board adjourned.
