Dr Spencer, a very old and respected member of the community died yesterday. He came to New Zealand as a surgeon of the 18th Royal Irish, after serving in the Crimea. Some years ago he occupied the position of Mayor.

The weather is dull and threatening, and most of the illuminations have been taken down. Ministers are attending the opening of the agricultural show this afternoon and a " social " at Green Island to Mr Carncross in the evening.
