[Per Press Association.] LONDON, May 12. Some samples of butter pasteurised at Kyneton, Victoria, have arrived. The butter is in good condition, but is not superior to ordinary butter. Its chief faults are excessive moisture and poorness of texture. Tallow.— Mutton, fino 18s 9d, medium 17s Gd ; beef, fine 18s, medium 16s 6d. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,400,000 quarters, and for the Continent 670,000 quarters. SYDNEY, Mat 13. Mr Howe, representing the Armour Company, of Chicago, is visiting the colonies to enquire as to the prospects of a live stock trade. If these are satisfactory, he hopes to establish a branch of the American firm in Australia for buying and selling live stock. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received the following cable message, dated LONDON, Mat 12. Wool. — Since close of last sales the following descriptions have declined asunder : — Cross-bred medium washed, medium scoured, coarse washed, coarse scoured, greasy lambs, fine washed, fine scoured, and medium greasy -|d per lb, fine greasy Id per lb. Merino — Greasy lamb superior, and greasy lamb medium and inferior, par 1 to -£d per lb ; washed superior and scoured superior, id per lb; greasy superior, Id per lb ; slipe and other descriptions unchanged. Competition by both Home and foreign buyers is fairly active, but the American demand is limited. The total quantity catalogued to date is 17,000 bales, of which 9000 have been withdrawn. Cocksfoot — Market inactive. Tallow — Tallow is dull of sale. New Zealand fine mutton and good beef are worth/respectively, ISs 6d and 16s 9d per cwt.
