Christchurch jllunt Club.— On Saturday next the barriers will meet fit the Hororata Hotel at 11 a^ni., and the drag liounds at the Bnsli lun at 2.30 p.m. Canterbury Agricultural College.— A meeting 1 of the Board of Governors of the Canterbury Agricultural College will be held at. Lincoln on Wednesday, May 19. Cruelty ;to a Hokse. —At Timaru yesterday; a fish' hawker named Doyle was summoned for cruelty to a horse, by workin" it to death. Mr. Raymond prosecuted f orthe Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Evidence was given that the horse was found dying in a gutter, in a most emaciated condition, and that the defendant admitted that he had worked it that day. In view of the circumstances of defendant, no fine was imposed, but he was ordered to pay 10s 6d costs. Geraldine Farmers' Club.— At a meetincr of the Geraldine Farmers' Club on Monday night a paper Ayas read by Mr R. Skinner on the subject' of ploughing. A discussion took place as to what is the best class of ploughing to be allowed at a ploughing match — the ordinary cut or whatTis called the " high cut." A resolution was carried that a ploughing match should be held as usual by the club, and that each ploughman should be allowed toj choose his own cut. A committee was formed to arrange about the match and select a site. • Harvest Home. —Mr and Mrs Geo. Rhodes gave their annual harvest home at Mcadowbank on Friday night. The large wool-shod was beautifully decorated with flags and evergreens for the occasion. No trouble had been spared by Mrs Rhodes to make the place as attractive as possible. There were about 250 guests present. Supper was served at eight o'clock. After supper dancing commenced, and was kept up, together with songs and recitations, until the small hours of the morning, when three hearty cheers were given for Mr and Mrs Rhodes. Mi Fleming's band played the music during the evening. Everything passed off most satisfactorily, all having spent a most enjoyable time, and the gathering was finished up by all joining hands and singing " Auld Lang Syne."
