ODDFELLOWS' HALL.
A somewhat novel and very successful entertainment -was given in. the Oddfellows' Hall last night, in aid of the Riccarton Parsonage Debt Fund. The entertainment was thoroughly appreciated throughout, and both lady and gentlemen performers — and there were fully fifty of; the former—had been thoroughly well drilled in their respective duties. The " Grecian Cymbal Song," performed by a number of young ladies clad j in the pretty though classic dress of that country, was re-demanded, as was also the Boccherini Minuette, which was danced with exactness and precision. The eight scenes from the story of Darby and Joan, with illustrative songs by Mrs Westmacott, were highly appreciated. The statue dance was perhaps the best scenic item where all were good, and the passive endurance of the living statues was a surprise to the audience. Mr A. Freeman sang "Who Shall be King" and "The Yeoman's Wedding" successfully. Miss E. A. Davie received an encore for her song "Oh, for Spring," and in response sang "Douglas Gordon" very well. Mr H. M. Reeves sang "As of Yore " in his usual artistic style. Mr G. P. Williams acted as stage manager and Miss Rachel ! Ross as pianiste, while the limelight effects were under the charge of Mr E. W. Seager. The dances reflected great credit on Miss Winifred Cox, who was the instructor, and Messrs Nairn and Sons supplied the flowers. It is understood that the performance will shortly be repeated for a charitable purpose.
