WORKING MEN'S CLUB.
■c The half-yearly general meeting of members of the Christchurch Working Men's Club was held in the social hall last night. There was a large attendance, and Mr E. Smith (president of the club) was in the chair. The balance-sheet showed: — Receipts for the six months .£ISBO 5s lid, expenditure .£1405 3s lOd, balance .£175 2s Id; previous bank balance brought forward .£lO7 12s 7d, present amount to credit in bank .£282 14s Bd. The statement of assets and liabilities showed a credit o£ .£2oS7 12s 3d. Both statements were unanimously adopted. The report of the Building Committee showed that a contract for new buildings to the value of .£758 had been put in hand, and that the memorial corner-stone of the new building would be laid on Saturday night, at nine o'clock. The report was adopted. The President announced that Messrs W. A. Caldwell, R. Heimburger, R. Irving, W. B. Hobbs, W. Gibbons and R. M'Millan had been appointed members of the committee. A donation of .£5 was voted on behalf of the -widow and children of a deceased member, the club to join with the Fire Brigade and the Foresters in organising a concert in their behalf. The sum of .£lO 10s was voted towards the Hawke's Bay Relief Fund, and the Secretary was instructed to hand the money to the Mayor in the morning. The meeting then terminated.
