POST AND TELEGRAPH CONCERT.

A very enjoyable smoke concert was held at Hobbs's Buildings cm Saturday night, at which about eighty members of the Post and Telegraph Athletic Chib were present. The president of tho club, Mr R. Kirton (Chief Postmaster, Christchurch) was in the chair, and was supported by Mr J. W. Wilkin (Chief Postmaster, Invemirgill). Mr J. W. Mason, vice-president of the Athletic Club, was in the vice-chair. After the usual loyal and patriotic toasts, the toasts of "The Executive Officers of the Department" and "The President and Vice-President of the Post and Telegraph Athletic Club" were drunk with musical honours, and responded to by Messrs X! Kirton and J. W. Mason. During the evening the prizes won ax the recent sports of the club were presented by the President. The winners (who were received with rounds of applause) were as follows : — Five-mile Bicycle Road Race — A. Alexander. 100 yds Race — P. Young 1, Bush 2, Gerard 3. Three-mile Bicycle and Swimming — Nicholls. Second prize in both bicycle vazes — Seelen. 220 yds — Curtayne. Highest batting average — C. Treweek. The thanks of the club were accorded to Mr Garrard for his very successful starting. During the evening songs were sung by Messrs A. Young, F. C. Hawley, J. A. Brosnahan, T. Joll and others.
