INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Industrial Association was held at the rooms last evening. Mr J. Triggs (president) ocenpied the chair, and there were present — Messrs Frostick, Bishop, Buchanan, England,: Kirk, Hancoek, Charters and Jowett. Apologies were received for the absence of Messrs Waymouth. Horsley, Waller, Congreve and E. Allan.' Mr R. Allan wrote . giving notice that at the next meeting he would move that the subscription to the Association in future should be 10s per annum for gentlemen and 2s 6d for ladies. The proposed amended rules which were recommended by the sub-committee were' considered seriatim, and approved, and, in compliance with, the Industrial Societies Act, it was decided to bring them before the next meeting of tho General Committee, and hold a general meeting of members to confirm them. The report of the sub-committee on a scheme, of federation between the various Industrial Associations in the colony was brought up, considered and approved. On the . motion of Mr Frostick, it was decided to recommend the Association to set aside a sum of money to assist .in publishing useful articles on various industries in the trade journals issued in the colony. The President reported that he had attended the opening of the exhibition of pupils' work at the Canterbury College School of Art, and had conveyed the resolution passed by the Association, in which it offered the interest accruing from the sum of .£SOO for the purpose of providing scholarships at the School of Art for children attending the public schools. The head-master had suggested that the scope of the scholarships should be ex-, tended so as to enable apprentices in the various trades to take advantage of the Association's offer. After discussion, Mr Frostrick moved, and Mr Bishop seconded, that the. words — " Or to be given to such other applicants whom the committee might select," should be added to the former resolution. This was carried unanimously. •It was decided to ask the Government to supply the Association with copies of the Labour. Statutes, the Official Year Book, and the monthly labour reports. After some routine business had been disposed of, the committee adjourned until March 5, -at 7.30 p.m., and it was decided to hold a general meeting at eight o'clock on the same evening for the purpose of passing" tti© amended rules.
