NEW ZEALAND AMATEUR SWIMMING ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was held at the Clarendon Hotel last night ; present — Messrs W. Jacques (viceTpresident, in the chair), A. Francis (Ashburton), G. T. Booth (Blenheim), TV. Halliday (Otald), C. H. Fox (Southbridge), H. Frost (Pahiatua), T. Wauchop, H. G. Brown and A. Taylor (East Christclmrch), A. Brabner, J. M. "Watson and G. J. C. Smart (honorary secretary) (Christclmrch), E. M. Can(Eailway), TV. J; Stratton (Eakaia), F. TV. Johnston (Auckland), C. Kent and TV. Hall (Sydenhaia), K. Bassett (Richmond), E. Duncan (Hutt Valley), G. Harris and TV. J. Stratton (vice-presidents.) Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Craddoct, Harrington, E. TV Eoper, TV. Tonks and G. Milne. The Secretary reported that the Canterbury clubs had decided that they could not see their Avay to hold a meeting f cr the purpose of allowing' the unallotted championships to be competed for. A letter was read from Mr TV. J. Gore, secretary of the Geraldine Swimming Club, stating that the club proposed to hold races on March 17, and desired to affiliate with the Association. In a second letter Mr Gore enclosed .£1 Is affiliation fee, and copies of the programme of the sports. Mr TV. Harvey, secretary of the Port Ahuriri Swimming Club, wrote stating that it was the club's intention to hold a "gala" in February, and requesting an opinion as to the appointment of a delegate to represent the club. A 'letter was read from the Ashburton Swimming Club, . stating that the committee had resolved to write to the Association suggesting that the rule relating to championship prize? should ha strictly adhered to, also that the Association should, purchase the medals in one lot from one n'rm, and that each club 'to which a championship had beer allotted should get the medal from *bu Association on forwarding the necessary £4, instead of each club having the medals made as at present. It was decided to adopt the suggestion. The Southbridge Swimming Club wrote applying to affiliate on paying half-fee for this year, as the season was very far . advanced. It was decided to grant the request. A letter was read from Mr E. Sarr, late secretary of the Hamilton Swimming Club, stating that the clubivas defunct. It was decided to suggest to the Rules Eevision Committee that provision should be made that every entry for championship events should be endorsed by the secretary of the club to which the competitor belongs; that a finishing line should be defined in connection with races, and that the committee should consider the question of re-handicapping during a race consisting of heats. After pp.ssing accounts the meeting closed.
