SYDENHAM.

An ordinary meeting of tho Sydenham Borough Council was held last evening; present — tho Mayor (Mr N. K. Bowden), Councillors Murray, M'Millan, Halley, Muffett, ITadfield, Caygill, . Lafferty, Hirfczel, Manhiro, Bell, Cutler and Large. Letters wore read asking the Council's patronage to benefit concerts to be given in aid of J. J. Leskie and Miss P. Cunningham. The requests were granted. A letter from Mr W. Lmidown, respecting the asphalting of Austin Street, was referred to the Works Committee. The District Eailway Traffic Manager, replying to the Council's letter with regard to the Lincoln Road railway crossing, wrote that tho matter was receiving attention. Tho Finance Committee reported that during the last fortnight the receipts of tho Council had been .£lOl lGs 3d, and recommended for payment accounts amounting to .£IBO 13s 4d. The balance of IS9G rates uncollected was ,£959. The balances of accounts were : — Credits — Separate trust account, .£lll Is 9d, interest account ,£lOl3 17s 6d, loan account .£512-1. Gs 7d; total, 5s 9d. Debit— General account .£3952 15s 2d. The report was adopted. Councillor M'Millan wished to move a, resolution . with reference to the proceedings at the Magistrate's Court in connection with the sewage depot, but was ruled out of order. The Council then went into committee to consider the by-laws, and, on resuming, the meeting terminated.
