AN AUSTRALIAN PROPOSAL.
SYDNEY, Feb. 23. Mr Eeid considers that the Mounted Rifle team now on its -way to London is sufficient to represent the colony at the Queen's celebrations. The Hon E.. J. Seddon is considering the cost 'of sending one hundred men, but has arrived at no definite conclusion. Tasmania will not send troops, and South Australia, West Australia and Queensland have not yet decided. ADELAIDE, Feb. 23. The Council of the South Australian Arts Society has sent a circular to the Premiers of the Australian colonies, suggesting that, at a cost of .£IOOO, to be equally borne, the colonies should make a presentation to the Queen in the shape of- six addresses, bound in an album, with a diadem of Australian gold, in a casket of Australian wood, and three water-colour or oil paintings of Australian scenery, painted under competitive conditions.
