TPer Press Association.! AUCKLAND, Fee. 22. A miner died suddenly at the Wentworth mine, Whangamata. He burst a blood-vessel. His name is not yet known, but he came from Eeefton, where his wife lives. At the inquest on Albert Carroll, found internally injured on the Epsom Road at night, an open verdict was returned. He was under the influence of drink, and it is supposed that he fell down and a trap went over him unnoticed. An arm was broken, his head was cut, and his abdomen and legs were bruised. DUNEDIN, Feb. 22. James Baker, a shearer between twentyeight and thirty years of age, a recent arrival from Victoria, was killed this evening by falling from the north express between Herbert and Hampden. He was on the platform of a carriage, and just before entering the tunnel asked for a knife to cut some tobacco. On emerging from the tunnel he was missing. The station-master at Hampden was informed, and the police going to the place found the man quite dead, his body being 1 mutilated badly.
