OTAGO v. CANTERBURY.
Mr A. M. Ollivier, the selector of Canterbury teams, has posted the following names of players to take part in the match against Otago, which will start at Lancaster Park on Thursday next: — C. R. Clark (United), H. De Maus (Midland), J. N. Fowke (Lancaster Park), R. D. Harman (United), T. Malone (Sydenham), W. Pearce (Midland), D. Reese (Midland), J. Wheatley (Midland) and F. Wilding (Lancaster Park). The selection of the other two men has been left in abeyance until Wednesday, in order to see whether the wicket is likely to be fast or slow. Should the former conditions prevail, A. Sims (United) andE. Bates (Lancaster Park) will fill the vacancies, but should the reverse happen, J. D. Lawrence (Midland) and T. H. North (Lancaster Park) will take places in the team. The selection has been favourably received, although a large number of players and critics are somewhat dissatisfied at the exclusion of Stephenson, whose bowling powers have been so well exhibited lately.
