North Canterbury Chrysanthemum Club.— A well-attended meeting was held at Mr Tombs's Temperance Hotel, Ran- ! giora on Wednesday evenings. A very good paper on watering and feeding chrysanthemums was read by the : President (Mr C. Carmichael), and evoked an animated discussion. Preliminary arrangements were made for an exhibition in May. Kaiapoi. — A correspondent writes :— The recent nor'-west weather has shown the absurdity of the action of the Borough j Council in not allowing tho use of their i water-cart in the streets of the borough. Along the main street, for some chains from the bridge northwards, the road is one mass of loose stones, and is dangerous for horses to- travel. Strangers, visiting the town will not believe that such a convenience as a water-cart exists here. This is not saying -much for our City Fathers. Polo. — A general 'meeting of the members of the Ashburton Polo Club was held on Wednesday night. A statement of accounts showed the club to be in a satisfactory position. It was decided to award prizes of the' same" value as those given last year to the winners of the different events at the sports meeting. The matter of the handicapping was discussed at great length, and the following motion was carried unanimously .• — " That it is matter of regret that Mr Claridge was unable to attend, and that Mr Wynn-Williams declined to attend this meeting to explain tho handicapping and running of Rajah in the Polo Cup and Steeplechase at the club's recent sports meeting."
