OAMARU SHEEP.

The North Otago Times says.* — During the past week or ten days we have noticed the express rather heavily laden with trucks of fat lambs . for Christchurch. These trucks have been filled from the growers' stocks within this district ; and tho trade has become so extensive that on Monday aspecial train left Oamaru shortly after 8 o'clock p.m. with over thirty trucks of fat lambs consigned to Christchurch by Mr Alex. Thomson, of Kakanui. We understand thero will be more to follow. The batches of fat lambs sent north by express , have all been from the Oamaru district, and needless to say of the very primest quality. We learn from inquiries that upwards of 12,000 fat lambs have already been dispatched. All these will bo frozen and shipped as from Canterbury, and for the honour of this district we wonder whether they will reach the Smithfield market labelled Wellingtons, Dunedins, South- ! lands, Oamarus or prime Canterburys? j As a recent visitor to Smithfield, perhaps |Mr Thomson himself can say. It is at all i events very gratifying to the stock producers of this district that they are able to grow such an abundance of fat lambs for export._
