SHOOTING CASE AT WELLINGTON.
RUNNING AMUCK. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Jan. 13. A man, named William George Entwistle, who got into a very excited state yesterday over a sewing machine, foi* which he was suing his wife, went home', procured a revolver, and ran amuck among the household. He had been on bad terms with his wife some time, and was evidently brooding over fancied wrongs. The family were staying with Mr William Moms,, at Newtown, and Entwistle, who had met Morris outside, by whom he was urged to become reconciled with his wife,- made a dash for the house, fired and hit hi- wife oft the left elbow. He fired three shots at his daughter Louie, all of wliich missed', and then turned and fired at Morris as ho entered. The bullet graved the* skirt of his neck, and went through his coat aaid' sMi*t. Entwistle reloaded the _*evol*vei*;. ami again missed Morris. Another shot* was heard, which led to the belief that he* had 1 committed suicide. When the police' en--j tered, however,, he gave himself up readily, merely expressing regret forhis bad shoot--ing. It was found that he had smashed* up a quantity of crockery and' furniture, in— cliidin'g* the machine, the immediate causo of all the trouble. He had also set fire to 1 some bedding. Mrs Entwistslb was not seriously hurt. Entwistle is an elderly man, an optician 1 by trade, and came from Sydney three years ago. Au application for a maintenance order was to be heard' against liihv to-day. He lias been married, according to his own statement, a good many times. Mrs Entwistle was warned that her husband intended to shoot her, but apparently took, little notice. Entwistle has been remanded; He gave the police a fidl account of his life,, which took three hours to toll, and was of a most extraordinary description. He gives his' a«*e as seventy-seven, though he does not look it, and says that he served in the Sikhwars fifty years ago under Lord Gough.
