■» CHRISTCHURCH. "Wednesday, Jan. 13. (Before Mr R. Beetham, S.M.; Mr C. Louisson, J.P. and Mr S. Lawrence, J.P.) Illegally on Premises. — James Hossack was charged with having been by night illegally on tho premises of Jabez Lukey, in Cashel Street. The evidence for the prosecution was to the effect that about one o'clock that morning Mr Lukey was awakened by the barking of his dog. He got up and saw the accused in *^he back yard. The accused made a rush at Mr Lukey, who, however, after a struggle, managed to get him down and hold him till the arrival of a constable. The accused said he had no recollection of the affair at all. He had had several drinks during the night. Sergeant-Major Mason said there was nothing known against the accused, who had resided in Christchurch for a longtime. The charge was reduced to one of drunkenness and, to this, the accused pleaded guilty and was fined 20s, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. Allged Larceny. — James Condon waa charged with having on Jan. 12 stolen two pairs of boots, value .£l lßs 6d, the property of H. Pannell. On the application of Sergeant-Major Mason, the accused was remanded till Friday.
