Almanac. — We have received a very artistic advertising almanac of this year 'from Messrs E. Eeece and Sons. Sydenham Sewage Scheme.— The City. Council's Sanitary Inspectors, Messrs J. H. Stringer and C. B; Massey, made a thorongh inspection of the Sydenham sewage operations on the South Belt in the early hours of this morning. They will prepare a report to be submitted to the Council on Monday evening. Wellington Caledonian Spobts. — Mr M J lavish, pipe-major of the Canterbury Caledonian Society, was very successful at the recent Caledonian sports at Welling- . ton, -where he won the most valuable prize for pipe music ; thefirst prize, a gold medal, for pibrochs, the second prize for marches, and a prize for dancing. As the winner of the principal prize for pipe music, Mr M'Tavish had the right of playing for the dances, and at the supper in the evening. Orangeism. — A special summoned meet ing* of No. 3, Victoria Ladies' Orango Lodge , was held on Friday evening, at the Druids' "Hall, Colombo Eoad, Sydenham, the Lady President, Sister Gourley, in the chair, and Sister Taylor in the vice-chair. There was jtx very good attendance. Several candidates were initiated, and one was affiliated ancl several proposed as members. The . Orange lectures -were given by the President, Sister Gom-ley, and Sister Eegan.glt was decided to send letters of condolence to No. 5, Orange Lily Lodge, Ashburton, and tothe family of the late Sister Bennett, and to the friends of the late Brother Toovey. It was agreed to make a presentation to one o£ the Sisters who had been recently married. A vote of thanks was passed to the visiting sisters' of No. 1 No Surrender Lodge, and was suitably responded to. Breaking and Entering.— The house of Mrs W.S. Sims, of Nayiand Street, ... Sumner, was broken - into during her absence from home and the pantry was. ; rifled. '■* j Theatre -Eotal. — There was a good audience at the Theatre Koyal last.night, when "Hands Across the Sea was repeated •• by the Woods Dramatic Company. The play went well throughout. The performance will be repeated to-night.- ., Independent' Order of Rechabites.— The adjourned quarterly meeting of the <- - PntWof Christchurch Tent(,No?26, l.o7&., ■ was held on Monday evening in the Young Men's Christian Association's Eooms. There was a good attendance of niembers, and Bro E. Lever, C.E., presided. After sundry accounts had been passed for payment, the auditors' report and the balancesheet were read and adopted. These showed a credit balance of _ElOl7 9s 4d, being a gain of .£127 12s 8d for the year. The funeral allowance of .£3O, on account of the death of a brother, was passed for payment. The officers for the ensuing six month- were elected and installed as follows:— C.E., Bro C. T. Haynes; D.E., Bro J. H. Sykes ; Secretary, Bro A. Palmer ; Treasurer, Bro J. Coombs* Cash Steward, Bro J. C. Wadman ; Book Steward, Bro W. J. Trerise ; Levite, Bro F. Hoole ; Guardian, . Bro W. C. Caddy ; P.C.E. Bro E. Lever ; Auditors, Bros J.A. Flesher and J. W. Eeed; Judicial Committee, Bros J. Coombs, F. •Coles, W. Dean and W. J. Trerise. _ It was decided to send two representatives to the district meeting to be held at Invercargill next month, and Bros F. -Coles and A. Palmer were elected. It was resolved to present the retiring P.C.E. with a framed certificate. At the quarterly meeting the D.C.E., Bro W. E. Cole, of Dunedin, was present on an official visit, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to him. The receipts of the evening were .£6O 9s lOd. The tent was then closed in due form.
