Burglary.— On Sunday night the premises of a firm in Hereford Street were entered, and .£4O in money taken from the safe. The safe door was found unlocked on Monday morning. Patent Indicator. — A number of gentlemen interested in refrigerating machinery and the shipment of frozen meat, met at the Oddfellows' Hall yesterday to inspect Mr F. Arenas's patent indicator, which is so designed that when placed in the cool chamber of a vessel carrying meat, it will give an alarm to the officer in charge should the atmosphere in the chamber rise abo/c the degree necessary for keeping the meat in proper condition, and at the same time it registers the number of times this has occurred on the voyage. Those present were the Hon E W. Parker, Mr G. F. Martin and Captain Anderson (Shaw, Savill and Albion Company), Mr I. Gibbs (New Zealand Shipping Company), Mr F. Waymouth (Belfast Freezing Company), Mr W. A. Moore (Shire Line of steamers), Mr E. G. Staveley (New Zealand- Loan and Mercantile Agency Company), Mr W. D. Meares ( Alliance Insurance Company), Mr G. Humphreys (Fletcher, Humphreys and Co.), Mr A. Loughrey and others. Mr Arenas explained the working of the contrivance, which was set up exactly as it .i would be on board ship, and Messrs Smith and Son, who had carried out tho electrical work to Mr Arenas's order, showed' the mechanism. All present agreed that i the invention was a most . valuable one, ■ and spok.o in high terms of the ingenuity i displayed by Mr Arenas, and of the com- i plete manner in \Vhich his ideas had been carried out by Messrs Smith and Son.
