Birdie and Ciydie Sawyers, daughters of the chief officer of the steamer Oreti, were drowned in a lake on the Henimington Estate, near Foxton, while bathing. They had been attending a picnic. AUCKLAND, J» <. 11. • Charles Gar] iclc, while out in a yacht was accidentally shot in the leg, the charge shattering the bone below the knee. He was sent to the hospital. The case is considered a bad one. DUNEDIN, Jan. 11. It was reported to the police that a body was seen in the water at St Clair yesterday. Search was made, and an umbrella and some other articles belonging to a young woman named Jane M'Corkindale were found on the beach. The young woman, who is missing from her home, has been despondent and somewhat eccentric of late. Search made for the body has, so far, proved unavailing.
