CHRISTCHURCH CATHEDRIAL.
Mr Jesse Tiinson, of Dunedin, gave an .organ recital in the Cathedral last night. Mi* Timson is no stranger to Christcburch, and so pleasantly has he been remembered that the congregation was very large. The programme was varied and well-chosen, land in the lighter music especially Mr •Timson was really excellent. A " Festival March" by Westbrook, a Communion in I 1 by Grison, Allegro Maestoso by Peace, an Andante in A flat by Hoyte, ■Toccata by Callaerts and "Priere et Berceuse" by (Juilmant, the last-named particularly, were aU played in a highly, artistic manner, and iv a lesser degree a* .similar remark applies to Mendelssohn's Second Sonata, Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, and Handel's corona--tion anthem, " Zadok the Priest." Mr Hugh Eeeves was the vocalise, and sang -"vO God, have Mercy,*" from Mendelssohn's St Paul, and Gounod's famous song " Nazareth," with good efffict. The offertory was in aid of -the choir and library .fund.
