WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above- Board was held last evening ; present — The Mayor and Messrs Parnham, Horrell, Lissaman, Wright, Mathews and Hiatt. The Mayor was appointed Chairman for the remainder of the term. Correspondence was received*— From the Marino Department, Wellington, notifying the appointment of Mr John M'Lachlan as a member of the Board in place of Mr Doubleday. From Selwyn County Council, respecting- dredge. _Eteceived. From Mr W. E. May, to the effect that Mrs May, acting under instructions from her solicitor, refused to pay -any. money in connection with the recent 1 civil action. The pilot's report stated the river to be in good order as to depth, but at the Gnlly reach the sand was driftingj thusmaking it dangerous to vessels. The Banhad been sounded, and gave 9ft at deeptide. The buoy in the river, at Askeatonj had been removed. During the montll there had been — Inwards, 225 tons ; outwards, 150 tons. The Pilot did not think dredging would be much good near the silt gathering, as the freshes would immediately wash any work "away. The Board decided to inspect the place on Jan. 18. The secretary was instructed to give Mr Papprill instructions to carry on, the ' court oase against Mrs May ; also to notify local bodies of the annual election which takes place in February. It was agreed to offer Mr Samuel Moody the use of the malt house for a short time at tlOs per week. The Finance Committee reported: — Eeceipts, .£lB lis 4d ; bank balance, .£24 lis sd; and recommended accounts to .£lO 3s for payment. — Adopted. The meeting then terminated.
