A WHIRLWIND IN MASTERTON.
The Wairarapa Daily Times says that a whirlwind of more than usual force travelled across Masterton in an easterly direction on Wednesday afternoon. It was first noticed by a number of packing cases belonging to Mr Temple being carried into the air. As it came on to Queen Street it nearly twisted Mr Temple's sign-board from its fixings. Mr Whittaker's delivery cart was picked up and faced in an opposite direction; a horse and trap belonging to Mr J. Yates were raised bodily off the ground and were very nearly upset. Mr AY. Francis was. carried off his feet and spun rouud like a top. The general commotion of Avomen screaming and the noise of packing cases flying about soon brought a crowd together. It was found that no damage had been done with the exception of breaking several panes of glass in Mr H. Hounslow's shop windows, and carrying ornaments off the shelves and- pictures off the walls, many of these being broken.
