A SETTLER'S EXPERIENCES.
At the annual gathering of the Southland Pioneer Settlers' Association Mr M'Kerchar, in the course of a brief speech, gave an interesting and amusing description of his arrival; with his mother and two sisters, at Eiverton in 1858. They took five weeks to go- down from Dunedin in the clipper schooner Star, and when thoy reached Eiverton received a great welcome from the Maoris — about 300 in number — then living there, the family being the first to settle there, coming direct from" Home.
