[Per Press Association.! NAPIER, Jan. 4, The first annual convention of the Ne v Zealand Section of the Theosophical Society, just held here, was attended by delegates from all parts of the colony. Last night a pubiic meeting was addressed by some of the delegates. An old man named John Lewis attempted to commit • suicide in the Caledonian Hotel on Saturday evening, by taking a dose of , chlorodyne, which he drank with a glass of beer. He was removed to the police station, where an emetic proved successful in removing the poison. Lewis was brought before the court this morning and remanded till Wednesday. WELLINGTON, Jan. 4. Mr Buchanan, the member for Wairarapa, who has been serioitsly ill with brain fever, is now out of danger. The North Island brass bands have formed an Association, with Mr Feakes as secretary. The object is to foster small country bands who cannot attend contests in the south, and will not be antagonistic to the New Zealand Association. Another meeting will be held at Marton to elect officers. The Wallaroo and Lizard have returned to Wellington. They will stay here for some days, and then make a short cruise', returning to meet Admiral Bridge, who is expected here at the beginning of February. DUNEDIN, Jan. 4. Robert Simpson was to-day sentenced to six months' additional imprisonment for escaping from the prison gang, and to six weeks' imprisonment on charges of larceny while out.
