The following resolution.! was passed :— "That this meeting of representatives of the Liberal electors in Riccarton district heartily thank Mr G. W. Rvtesell . for the services he has performed during the, last Parliament on behalf of the Liberal Party; his devotion to the cause of the people and his fidelity to his election pledges are fully recognised by us, also his independence of judgment and great ability ; that Aye recognise his defeat arose from sympathy evoked for Mr Rolleston, and not from ' any want of confidence in Mr Russell's ability or views; that we especially thank him for securing the reform of the Canterbury College . Board of Governors, the passing of the Female Law Practitioners Act and other measures with which his name is identified; finally, that, having every confidence nr him, we are prepared to support him against all comers for the Riccarton seat at next election."
