MIDLAND ELEVEN v. UNITED THIRTEEN.
In the match between the Midland Eleven and the United Thirteen, which was commenced at Hagley Park, the United, who went in first, made a surprisingly good
stand against the formidable bowling of their opponents. For this H. M. Reeves, who played stubbornly and patiently for 31, and J. Wood, who hit freely and cleanly for 30, were principally responsible. G. B. Wilson likewise displayed good form for 19, Tapper played an excellent defensive innings for 18, and Medlow, W. Harman and Hair made runs. Barclay, too, was scoring well when a fast ball from Pearce struck him ontheforeheadand inflicted such a severe wound that he was obliged to retire. The Midland bowling was not particularly deadly on the comparatively easy wicket, but Pearce bowled steadily, and both D. Reese and Barry at times broke a good deal.
