■ ♦ TPeb Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Nov. 28. A carcase of frozen mutton slipped from tbe slings and fell into tbo bold of itbe Mataura. The neck struck George Newton, an employe of tbe New Zealand Shipping Company, on the head, inflicting a severe wound, and he had to be removed to the Hospital. Newton had a finger cut off by a winch some weeks ago, and had only just returned to work. About nine o'clock this morning, when Mr Wrenn's carrier's van was standing in front of his shop at Sumner, one of the horses, a young one, took fright at the tramcars, and the team bolted. The driver was thrown off the seat, and slightly hurt, but got up and v/ent to stop the runaways. With the assistance of some passers-by this was effected without much damage having been done. A number of ladies and children were about at the time, but, though there were some rather narrow escapes, no one was hurt. Ephraim Newman, a German about seventy-three years of age, died suddenly at his residence at East Oxford on Thursday. Deceased had been haymaking, and left his companions and entered his cottage apparently to take a rest, and was found dead shortly afterwards. The inquest on tho body of Emanuel Seaward was held this morning, before Mr Bishop, Coroner, and a jury of six. Dr Parsons deposed to having held a postmortem examination, and found the lungs bearing signs of disease of long-standing. It was the same with the heart and liver, and he attributed death to failure of the heart's action.
