THE HON J. G. WARD.

[Pee, Press Association.] INVEECARGILL, Nov. 28. The Hon J. G. Ward was to-day presented with a purse of 150 sovereigns by friends in Southland as a testimonial in recognition of his public services. Mr Ward declined to receive the money, stating that he was a young man, full of energy, and would rather fight his own way. He had not the least doubt tliat he would be able to surmount his existing difficulties. The meeting appointed three trustees, directing them to hold the money in trust. Referring to the banking legislation, Mr Ward said that, after the interval that had elapsed, and on calm deliberation, he was satisfied that the Government's action was hi the best interests of the colony, and had saved thousands of people from disaster. The meeting, which was held at midday, was a largo and enthusiastic one.
