NEW BRIGHTON SAILING CLUB.

This Club formally opened the season at Now Brighton on Saturday afternoon, but afi exceeding high wind greatly interfered with the arrangements made for the opening events. The members proceeded to Herring Bay, and indulged in sailing inancexivres under the direction of the popular captain, Mr George Slater. Shortly before 6 p.m. the little fleet was safely moored, and the members adjourned to the Burwood Hall for the annual dinner. Mr James Jlalcolmson presided, and Mr George Pierce, of the Bower Hotel, provided a very excellent dinner, which was partaken of by a goodly number of clubmen and friends. After the usual toasts, and a review of the past season, tie company indulged in harmony. Mr A. Free presided at the piano. Songs were sung by Messrs Hardie, Malcolmson, Blunt, Free, Marshall, Herd, Watson and others. Mr Blunt danced the sword dance excellently, and Mr Waitson's banjo songs and solo were much appreciated. Mr Ryan, who kindly gave his services, greatly pleased the company with his recitations. Before breaking up, mutual good wishes were exchanged, and town visitors left for home by special tram, having spent a thoroughly pleasant evening.
