NEW BRIGHTON.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Some of those worthy residents of New Brighton who are so nervously anxious to serve their .fellows in an official capacity are likely to be disappointed. The new borough has not yet been gazetted, and possibly may not be after all. There is some hitch in the proceedings which, so far, is shrouded in mystery. Perhaps it is just as well, as those connected with the formation of the borough made a most inexcusably bad start. They ran up a large bill of costs, and afterwards invited the residents to meet at the schoolroom, presumably to congratulate one another on the success of their efforts, but really to badger and shame those who are always willing to bo bled into liquidating the unnecessarily heavy expenses which a minority of the committee recklessly incurred. Those who assembled in response to the advertisement parted with the needful — certainly with a pardonably bad grace. Next time a public meeting is called at New Brighton, the object of said meeting will be strictly inquired into before the doors are unlocked.— l am, &c, RESIDENT.
