Tuesday, Oct. 6. (Before Mr J. Palmer, J.P., Mr W. Prudhce, . J.P., Mr W. Pratt, J.P., and Mr S. Lawrence, J.P.) Assault on a Policeman. — Thomas Whyte was charged with having, on Sept. 12, assaulted Constable Milla'rd while in : the execution of his duty. A man named Julius Danton is at present serving a sentence of three months for the same offence. After hearing the evidence, the Bench sentenced Whyte to three months' imprisonment with hard labour. (Before Mr R. Beetham, S.M.) Civil Cases. — Judgment for plaintiffs by default was given in the following cases : — Berry and Co. v. M'JMasters, claim £6 4s 7d ; Ayers, Beauchamp and Co. v. Sherlock, £1 ; Press Company v. C. Crocker, £4> 5s 6d ; same v. Cameron, 17s 9d; same v. M'Clure, .£3 10s 6d; same v. T. W.Newman, £1 10s ; White's Executors v. W. H. Hammond, £20 6s lid ; M. Harris v. E. W. Stowe, £7 173; same v. M'Kee, «£6 4s7d; White's Executors v. Smith, £2 Is ; Bell v. Moseley, i>l4 5s 6d ; defendant ordered to pay, or in default seven weeks' imprisonment. — Mills v. Moseley, £4- Ss ; defendant ordered to pay or in default two weeks' imprisonment.
